Dear Sirs,
We have the pleasure to invite you to the annual professional-business conference of experts in water management, which will be held this year in Bol, on the Island of Brač, from October 11th to 15th, under the title:
CURRENT ISSUES IN WATER SUPPLY AND SEWAGE
This year again we are organizing the traditional professional and business conference on water management, the most important and influential event of this kind in Croatia and the wider region. The conference is seen by many as a must-attend event in order to be up-to-date with the news, challenges and opportunities in the field of water supply and sewage.
The meeting brings together experts from Croatia, from the surrounding countries and from all over Europe involved in the issues of water supply, sewage and wastewater treatment. Apart from Croatian authors of professional papers, we see an ever growing interest of authors from all over Europe to present their projects, achievements and experiences on this event.
The water supply and sewage sector is one of the most developed branches in the overall Croatian economy, which explains the fact that Croatian experts stand side by side with their colleagues from other parts of Europe.
In addition to expert lectures and discussions, the conference will gave various accompanying events, company presentations and exhibitions of products and services relating to water supply and sewage. This allows manufacturers, agents, contractors, etc. to contact the users of such products and services directly and promote directly their new products and services.
Large sums of money have been channelled into the water industry for several years now, most of which coming EU programmes (the EU Cohesion Fund), which have met serious implementation challenges. Therefore, this expert meeting will also be an opportunity to exchange experiences and expectations how to best put into implementation the projects whose funding has been assured. Further on, the conference will deal with the overall situation in terms of the issues, initiatives and activities related to price increases of materials and equipment, all of which impacted the market and slowed down construction. The Croatian government on its part took the steps to deal with the above problem by adopting a legal framework for potential price increases for contractors. Accordingly, we assume that this will be a high-profile topic will at the conference.
The National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Croatia, which is now in full swing is
designed, among other, to break down these huge funds into small and medium-sized chunks of
investments, recognizing their value alongside the large national projects.
For more than a year, the operation of public utilities has been impacted by disruptions on the electricity market, and the ensuing price increases of electricity. This, in turn, produced changes in the financial functioning of public utility companies. Most providers have already corrected their prices significantly and this topic will certainly also be present at this year's expert meeting.
Given that a major project has been launched to prepare the public water suppliers throughout the Republic of Croatia for the introduction of charging for water use based on the amount of water consumed, through the reconstruction and modernization of the metering equipment, the discussions on this topic will also be represented at the conference. And, since the above topic is related to the problem of chronic water losses in the water supply system, we believe that it this too will be a major focus of this year's meeting.
In the legislative domain, an intensive process is under way to adjust local laws and specifications with those of the EU. Some of the regulations recently introduced have proven to be controversial, causing dissatisfaction among public providers. Some of these disputes were taken as high as the Constitutional Court of Croatia. This proves the sensitivity of the entire sector of water management and the importance of carrying out reforms.
All of the above will stamp this year's expert meeting and, hopefully, contribute to an overall progress in the entire industry. We do not forget the public at large and its needs to have an objective insight into perspectives that await us in the coming years.
The above-mentioned issues are only some of all that will be presented at the conference.
We invite all interested parties to prepare their presentations and expert contributions and in such a way participate in the work of the expert meeting.
We also invite the representatives of public water companies, university professors and lecturers, heads of ministries, various other departments, Croatian waters, planners, architects, engineers, manufacturers and distributors of equipment and installations, as well as the institutes and inspection bureaus to join us with their specific professional contributions and their angle of view.
